My Wedding Style

portland oregon photographerIf you have searched at all among photographers you will find that each and every photographer has their own unique style. It takes years to discover, mold, and perfect a photographer's style. My wedding photography style is a blend between photojournalism and traditional. Below you will find information describing each style and how I approach each wedding photo shoot.

Photojournalism

At Travis Johnson Photography, I have always believed that each wedding is a once in a lifetime event that must be captured in it's entirety, beginning to end, with no small detail missed. This style is more of a documentary and the photographer takes pictures of what happens and does not interfer or step in to disturb the scene. This is very candid and nothing is posed. This is great for those spontanious, real moments. It captures all the little details. This style tells a story in pictures. I feel the best way to capture this "documentary story" is to be there from the beginning of the day all the way up until the end of the reception. I always shoot getting ready shots, the ceremony, and reception shots in this style.

Traditional (Portrait Journalism)

I also believe every bride and groom wants to see pictures of themselves that makes them go "WOW!" or "I love that shot!". These photos are the ones that are going to be prominently displayed on the walls of homes, given out as gifts, and enlarged to go in your photo album. To get these types of shots a photographer will shoot more traditionally. Traditional does not mean boring, stiff, rigid poses. These shots are a mix of photojournalism + traditional = Portrait Journalism. Click here to see a excellent slideshow showcasing the "portrait photojournalistic" style.
Shots are set up naturally and the wedding couple and I have fun, think creatively, and use spontaneous moments throughout the photo shoot to capture dramatic, romantic images. I will guide the bride and groom in what to do, but let it flow out in a fluid, smooth manner. As needed, I will also coach the couple in what to do, after all, the bride and groom might struggle with creative ideas...THAT IS WHY I AM THERE! I give ideas and the bride and groom dive into the moment and make it real. I always set aside some time to slip away for awhile and really focus on getting romantic, breath-taking, images in this style.

To this date I have provided over 200 brides and grooms with beautiful wedding memories...and the count is always rising.
